Let the girl play.

New Thursday comic up! This is the first appearance of Coach Demurson...ever. I dreamed him up for this strip in particular but think I'll make him a fairly regular character from now on.

Starting this Monday, April 4th I'm going to be starting the "Caption this Picture!" weekly contests, which you can read more about by going here. So sharpen those...thinking...caps, and put your best foot flowered, and try to win one of those sweet George bumper stickers. If the contest picks up steam in the coming weeks I'll probably be giving out t-shirts to winners as well.

Gee, everyone's got a blog nowadays.

Even Greg. I don't know what he hopes to accomplish there, but I wish him luck...I guess.

The debut of Sirloin! ...Etc!

New comic up for Monday. Finally, after months of being on the Characters page, Sirloin appears in a strip. I don't count on him being much more than a bit player though, but who knows. Back story on Sirloin: A couple years ago a friend approached me with the idea of doing a weekly webcomic for his new, though now-defunct, website. I didn't want to use George at the time so I dreamed up a new one called "Almost Hip" that featured four new characters, with Sirloin being one of them. I produced a whopping one strip (actually, it was more of a panel) that was done in sort of a Penny Arcade vein before losing interest. Oh well, at least I got a fat guy named Sirloin out of the deal!

I still haven't decided if I'm going to go Monday/Wednesday/Friday with the updates, but I'm leaning towards it. I'm also thinking about doing a weekly "Make a caption for this picture!" kind of contest where each week I draw a silly one-panel comic and have users chime in with their ideas about what its caption should be. I figure the seldom-used George Forums would be a good place to hold the weekly contest. I'm thinking winners will receive a bumper sticker...once I design one. Maybe there will be more new things coming down the pike in the future, too.

Thrice weekly?

I'm thinking of putting out a new comic strip every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday rather than every Monday and Thursday, as it is currently. This is mainly due to the fact that I've got quite a few comics already done for the upcoming weeks and I've found myself doing them a little more frequently lately. Do you, loyal readers of George--all three of you--think it would be a good idea? It would mean more effort on my part, but doing George is always fun and if it means more and happier visitors, it'd be worth it. So chime in with your two cents or preferably your two dollars and let me know what you think.

Oh, I've also been toying with the idea of making the first Monday of each month a "Sunday" style strip--i.e., very...large.

Softball: The Second Strip *dramatic music*

New Thursday comic up. We're continuing the softball tradition here, folks. I had originally envisioned Rob and Greg sitting at a computer rather than on the sofa playing...some form of entertainment console, but I liked the whole couch/videogame setup so much I decided to do it here, too. In fact, I'll probably be using it quite a bit from now on. It's a nice break from sitting at the table sipping coffee and chatting about ridiculously absurd things.

Swenson Funnies Online

One of my favorite webcomics over recent days has been The Cynic, by Jeff Swenson, over at http://www.swensonfunnies.com/. There's also a single-panel strip there called Frenetic Wanderings also done by Swenson. However, before you check it out be warned that it's more of an adult-oriented comic strip. This means there's often some mild swearing and the occasional butt-shot or overly massive...uh, tatas. But I've found it to be one of the most consistently funny online comics out there, especially when going through the Cynic archives. Thumbs up, Jeff!

Soft...ball?

New Monday comic up. It's the first in what's going to be a series of strips dealing with the gang joining a community softball league. Which is kind off odd to me...because I've never played softball or even watched a softball game, but hey, I've...watched TV before. So I think I know my way around the bases. I think.

Haloscan!

I've switched the commenting system here over to Haloscan. Blogger's built-in commenting system has been very slow in my experiences, and also kind of buggy. Plus there was no trackback functionality. So unfortunately old comments are not currently visible, but that's okay, as no one had commented on anything as of late anyway! So c'mon you guys, let's get the comments rolling and let's see if Haloscan is as good as it promises to be.

Luck o' the Irish!

New Thursday holiday comic up...happy St. Patty's Day. I personally don't wear green so I had to resort to a Hawaiian shirt that I hadn't worn in a long time. Oh, the depths of fashion that I'll sink to to avoid getting pinched!

The Paul...cartoon--ized

Recently I turned my buddy ThePaul into a cartoon. Usually I'm not very good at turning real-life people into cartoons. I don't have the knack for assessing someone's traits and converting them to the drawing pad, unless I'm doing a lifelike rendering of them, which...now that I think about it, I haven't done in years. In any case, despite all that I'm pretty happy with how it came out and I'll probably do another one to go up on his photos page soon!

Techno-babble

New Monday comic up. As usual, Dave is clueless. But who wouldn't be? I'm not even sure Greg's techno-babble means anything useful in the computer world...I just hacked some buzzwords together and it works pretty well, I think. Maybe some network administrator out there can let us all know if I was close to...something.

Hey, look, it's George's backyard!

New Thursday comic is up and running, but I can barely say the same for Blogger. This is the first time I've gotten as far as the "create new entry" page in the past hour and a half.

Anyway, this is the first comic...ever...to feature George's backyard. I like it so much I think I'm going to make it regular scenery. Usually I've got the characters sitting around a table in the house drinking coffee just shooting the breeze, but sitting in the backyard with a few drinks (non-alcoholic, kids) is refreshing. And to those of you who are snowed in right now...ha! George lives in California!

I also want to let you all know about a new page on the main site which will allow you to put the newest strip on your site if you so desire, and I hope you do! Here's the link to the new promo page, which has several options on it that will allow you to grace your site with George's mug. Speaking of mugs...

3/7/05 comic up!

You know I've run out of things to say when the headline is simply, "3/7/05 comic up!" Well, it's a continuation of last Thursday's comic, hope you get a giggle or something out of it.

I'll...blackmail YOU!

New Thursday comic up. This one is a throwback to an old comic I did long ago where pretty much the entire strip was comprised of the first two panels of this new one...Reading the old one I thought it was missing that special something at the end to really make it pop, so I redid it, and viola! Or...voila. Whichever.
