The world's swap meet

New Monday comic up. There have been times when I've passed up buying something at a yard sale or swap meet only to regret it later when I see the same item on eBay for twice as much. Then, there are times when I buy stuff at yard sales and swap meets with the intention of re-selling them, only to be too lazy or to find out I really didn't get a great bargain after all.

A George Comics book, featuring the first 64 comics, is in the works right now. But it's not going to be anything too flashy...the hard copy is going to be nice, pretty high-quality, with a coil binding on it, though I'm not really going to be able to mass-produce them. I might just be able to print say, 20 copies or so to help generate local interest for now--if there becomes some sort of demand for them I might have a bunch professionally-printed and then charge a small (hopefully) amount for each one. It's going to be 5.5" x 8.5", so it'll be a nice portable size. Two comics per page in full color. It's gonna be cool! I think. I hope? I'm also going to have a PDF version of the book for download, absolutely free.

Fony--the world's leading electronics manufacturer

New Monday comic is up. I did a version of this comic years back when portable CD players were still kind of expensive (by today's standards) that had Dave buying a CD player with 40-second anti-skip and an AM/FM tuner for eighty dollars at the swap meet (flea market, whatever you want to call it). That seems ludicrous now, but I guess back then that was a fair deal for such a CD player. Also, the strip was set in the basic room with a table, not at the swap meet itself. And the punchline was different. But dang it, the basic premise was the same, I tell you!

I've set up a page where very kind people can donate to George, if they feel so inclined. Like it says there, any donations I receive will go straight into maintaining the comic strip and website, be it for hosting fees, advertising, or anything else about a comic strip/website that costs money. Mostly I think that any money I receive through donations will go into advertising, at least for now. I've been doing a lot of work over the past month or so to make the website and the comics better, and I'd really like to make a big marketing push now to get George more into the "internet eye." So if you feel like helping out, you know what to do! All donations are extremely appreciated.

All kinds of new stuff going on!

Thursday's comic is up a little early because frankly, I couldn't wait to debut the new "style" I'm doing the comics in (which, incidentally, is outlined in the "How a George Comic is Created" section). You'll notice the characters are bolder and sharper, the backgrounds in many cases are more colorful and detailed, and the overall comic is a little bit bigger than before. I made the comic and main website just large enough to fit comfortably on a screen set at 800x600 resolution...though, come on, if you're still using that resolution you seriously need to get a new monitor/video card or something!

The header graphic on the main website has been updated. The old one served me well for the past six months but the new one is definitely way cooler. Also, the titles of the pages are graphics now instead of boring old text. And you know about the new wallpaper and buddy icons. Plus, there's a new custom 404: Page Not Found error page that's way cooler than the dumb old black-and-white default one.

I also made this pretty cool Flash banner to help promote the site. I'm going to buy some advertising space at two or three comic sites around the web to help drive traffic to it. I've got a couple of non-animated banners as well, and one of them is currently in rotation at a fairly large webcomic listing site, so that's cool.

So tons of new stuff going on. Tell two friends! Then they'll tell two friends, and they'll tell two friends, and they'll...probably not care, but maybe they'll tell two friends too.

New stuff over at George-Comics.com

Hey everybody. Been workin' on some new stuff for george-comics.com... First, in addition to the new wallpaper I posted a few days ago, I put some George AIM Buddy Icons up in the Downloads section. Enjoy!

A lot of people might enjoy reading about how a George comic strip is created. It ain't exactly a walk in the park, but it's fun to do! And now you can read about how I go about creating the finished products you see. Actually, the comic featured in the write-up is one that won't be officially debuting for a couple of weeks, so...that's kinda cool! ...Right?

Fake sunglasses, ugly hats, and...fleas? And new wallpaper!

Thursday's comic is up. Is everyone familiar with the phrase "Flea market" in regards to a swap meet? How about "ramaté?" In any case, that's where they're going. Hilarity will ensue, I hope. I know it does every time I go to the swap meet.

Also, there's a new wallpaper up in the Downloads section. Sheck it out!

Happy quatro de Julio!

I think that's right. Anyway, hope everyone's having a great Independence Day. If you're in America, that is. If not, have fun on this regular old Monday, doing regular old Monday stuff. Hah!

My birthday was two days ago. It's never very much fun to have a birthday so close to the 4th of July, though, because everyone always goes out of town. I wanted to at least have a little family get-together, but half of my family took off to go to the coast for the three-day weekend. Just about everyone else had prior plans. Oh well...better than being born on Christmas.
