Creating a font of your own handwriting

A couple of days ago, I decided, on a whim, that I was going to create a font based on my very own handwriting. The only problem was that I had no idea how to do this. Fortunately, I figured it out, but I wanted to spare others from having to go through the rigmarole of a learning process I had to go through to do it.
